Hot! Michigan State Fans Get Hype For Gameday

As expected the crowd at Munn Field for ESPN College GameDay was euphoric in anticipation for the Michigan State Spartan s late night matchup with the Wisconsin Badgers.

The crowd was rowdy all evening long, and got started early by hackling GameDay hosts Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit immeadieatly. Howard got most of the flak with the constant little sister chants, but Herbstreit heard his share of boos to go with a both guys suck chant.

The crowd was awesome, Michigan State senior cheerleader Erik Van Tongeren said. It s great to see how many people showed up for this event.

The crowd was extra amped up for Corso s traditional headgear pick since it would be his 200th. The crowd continually chanted Corso s name, but when the moment finally came they were vastly disappointed. Corso didn t succumb to the pressure of the Spartan crowd. Corso choose to put on the head of Wisconsin mascot Bucky the Badger.

It was unfortunate to see Corso choose a weasel for his 200th selection, Michigan State senior and fan Michael Pendy said. It s to bad he ll be wrong on such a milestone selection.

Among the people in the crowd were a few Spartan celebrities. Tom Izzo could be seen briefly venturing through the crowd, as well as a few of his players, including star forward Draymond Green. Former Spartan National Championship winner Mateen Cleaves was also in attendance making GameDay picks with the crew.

It was pretty cool to see Mateen make the GameDay picks, Michigan State senior and fan Marko Mitkoski said. The crowd went nuts when he came on.

As if the crowd wasn t already in a frenzy, College GameDay host Chris Fowler made sure they were up to the task with a particularly rousing speech before the show started. Fowler mentioned that there weren t many Wisconsin fans before urging the crowd to show some East Lansing hospitality, by demonstrating the intensity that the Spartans from the movie 300 did.

The crowd fulfilled Fowler s wishes with a high noise level throughout the event. With every MSU highlight you could hear a roar from the crowd, and with every Wisconsin highlight you could hear the boos rain towards the monitors. Yes the fans certainly came prepared, but it wasn t just their lungs at work. The artistic and creative posters ranged from Free Willy posters (referencing the movie to Gholston s suspension) to posters mocking the Badgers for playing in the Spartan s Rose bowl. Both teams finished the season 11-1, and despite a win against Wisconsin, Michigan State did not receive an invite to the Rose Bowl.

Michigan State fans that attended got a once in a lifetime experience that they won t soon forget.

I can t believe I spoke to Erin Andrews, Michigan State junior fan Viktor Simovski said. I only said a word or two, but I got a picture too.

Wisconsin fans were very scarce during the College GameDay Telecast, as the Michigan State crowd made their pretense felt. With every boo and every poster insulting Russell Wilson and the Badgers you could just sense that tonight will be even crazier.

I can t even fathom how insane the crowds going to be tonight, Mitkoski said. I can t wait to get wild at the game; it s going to be a great time.

The crowd was hyped on the set of College GameDay, and now they have another six hours or so to get ready for the game. Giving Spartans fans that much time to prepare for a game may make the atmosphere for this game an unforgettable one for the team, the fans, and the program.
