With her husband by her side, Ms. Rancic said she had the choice of a double lumpectomy and radiation and a 20% chance of eradicating the disease, or a mastectomy.
It was a hard decision. Bill said to me, I just need you around for the next 50 years, kid. I don't care about what you look like or the physical. I just want you around,' Ms. Rancic said.
The couple, who star in a reality TV show and are making plans to open a restaurant with Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises Inc. Chairman Rich Melman in Chicago, sat close together on a couch for the interview.
Mr. Rancic said, It's not a decision we made lightly.
And Ms. Rancic gave props to her friend Lindsay Avner, founder of Chicago-based charity Bright Pink, for helping her understand the mastectomy process. Bright Pink is a breast cancer-awareness organization.
